Well most holiday reps and campsite courier’s work all over Europe, they work hard but more importantly they play hard! Most campsite couriers work on campsites in France, Spain and the UK for both small and large companies.
The season usually starts early May with what is known as "Montage". You will spend every day for about a month cleaning static caravans, mobile homes and erecting tents ready for the start of the season.
This is generally hard work and you have to put your fair share of hours in, but after you have finished for the day, it becomes a general free for all as all holiday reps seem to gather together in the same bars and have a good go at drinking it dry.
During “montage” you will travel to many different campsites along the west coast of France (depending on who you work for)
During this time there are no customers on site and although there is a lot of cleaning to be done, it is generally a relaxed atmosphere. You will be working in a big group and this is a good time to forge those new friendships.
After "montage" you will be assigned a campsite to work on usually on your own or in a small group of between 2 and 5 people. On some big sites your group may even extend to 15!
Don't worry about working on your own, infact I would highly recommend this because there will always be other companies on the same site and you will be mixing with the other reps.
Like I said you will be mostly cleaning, so take a good pair of boots and a small CD player if possible (it makes all the difference) You will also have to do some paper work (not difficult) and then show in your customers when they arrive.
Most of your customers will tend to arrive at a decent hour but sometimes depending or what ferry crossing they have you will have a few long nights ahead (like that makes any difference, bet you will not get a good night sleep in your own bed all summer!)
And so it will continue, waking up, cleaning, showing in arrivals, changing gas bottles, dealing with queries, taking a dip in the pool or sea because you can't be arsed to have a shower, going to the bar, have a beer, getting drunk, have another beer, move on to the beach party, getting even more drunk, move back to someone’s caravan for a party, Waking up ect.
At the end of season we have what’s called demontage (it basically montage in reverse, although there are a few customer around)
